Art –
The
study of line, color, composition and form helps students develop fundamental
artistic skills. From sculpture to
drawing and painting, art projects are taught at each grade level and art
history and cultural arts are explored. Each year, DMCS partners with the
Minneapolis Institute of Arts' Adventure Program to bring art to our
school. Jason has been teaching art at DMCS since 2006.
The focus of study during
during the school year:
Kindergarten - creating
drawings and paintings, crayon engravings, tribal masks, 2-in-1 puppets,
anything machines
Grade 1 - making
chivalry shields, murals, pop-up books, and collographs
Grade 2 - developing
mosaics, scroll boxes, and vehicles for the annual spring car race, among
other things
Grades
3 & 4 - expanding upon the basic programs with journeys
into animation, map making, hieroglyphs, and wire sculpture (grade three)
and watercolor landscapes, weavings, mandalas, and comic books (grade
four)
Grades 5 & 6 - exploring
and creating their own frescoes, relief prints, and embossings, among many
other things. The sixth graders will close out their DMCS career by
painting on canvas, creating an apple-head doll, building a model city,
and designing and flying their own sled kites.
